Frequently Asked Questions

What vaccinations are required?

Dogs: must be vaccinated against distemper and parvovirus within the last year, rabies as required by law, and intranasal bordatella within the last 6 months.

Cats: must be vaccinated against distemper, chlamydia, and leukemia within the last year, and rabies as required by law.

Because your veterinarian is the expert on your pet's health, we ask that you provide us with written confirmation from your vet that your pet's vaccinations are current. You or your vet may fax this to us at 208-667-6761.

Who can play in doggie daycare?

All dogs must be 10 weeks or older.

We aren't a doggie dating service. All dogs older than 6 months must be spayed or neutered.

All dogs must be in good health and free from communicable disease within the last 30 days.

All dogs must be non-aggressive towards dogs and people and not food or toy protective.

All dogs must pass a temperament test.

What is a temperament test?

In order to play in doggie daycare or stay in our Luxury Suites, each dog owner will need to fill out an application and each dog will need to pass a temperament test. The application will ask you about your dog's behavior and health history. The temperament test will judge how your dog will interact with the other dogs, and also makes sure that your dog will enjoy themselves at The Coeur d'Alene Pet resort and doggie daycare.

During the temperament test, your dog will need to stay with us for at least one hour, but preferably longer. Your dog will be introduced to one of our doggie daycare regulars. We observe your dog's reaction to them. We are looking for any signs of aggression, such as growling, lunging, or baring teeth. If your dog does okay, he is then slowly introduced to the 'pack' in doggie daycare, and allowed to actually play during the temperament test.

What if my dog doesn't pass the temperament test or isn't spayed/neutered?

Dogs that do not pass the temperament test or aren't spayed/neutered by 6 months of age are welcome to stay at The Coeur d'Alene Pet Resort. However, they must stay in a Luxury Suite. Imagine how you would feel if your mom made you sit inside and watch all your friends playing outside. It's just not fair, is it?

In the Luxury Suites, your dog will have plenty of love and one-on-one attention, and their own TV/VCR.

My pet has never boarded before. How will he do?

All pets experience their 'first time' at some point, just as children experience their first time with a sitter. Depending on your pet's temperament, they will go through an adjustment period anywhere from a few hours to one or two days. Younger pets adjust rapidly and enjoy the social interaction. Because we don't board any pet in a cage, we have found that they tend to relax more quickly than usual, although there are always exceptions. Please don't hesitate to call us at any time to check on your pet.

Is my cat placed with other cats during boarding?

All cats have their own townhouse for sleeping, eating, and relaxing. Cats are let out for individual playtimes, and are never placed with other cats unless that is your desire.

Can my dogs/cats stay in the same accomodations?

Dogs or cats from the same family can be boarded together, space and temperament permitting. Be aware that even if they are best friends at home, boarding can be an experience that may cause them to react differently if they are in close quarters.

My pet is on medication. Can you administer it for me?

Yes. We will administer prescribed medications as needed throughout the day. Be sure to bring with you enough medications to last throughout your pet's stay with complete instructions.

Shall I bring my pet's own food?

That is recommended. Please label the container or baggies clearly with your pet's name.

Can I bring my pet's bedding and/or toys?

Yes. You may bring whatever you would like to help your pet's visit be more comfortable for him or her.

What if I don't want my dog out playing with the other dogs?

Then maybe the Resort isn't for your pet. Boarding is a word we here at the Resort don't like to use. We do not board or kennel your pets. If there is a medical condition that would keep them from being in any of our play areas then of course we can make other arrangements. Other wise it's play time!
